Recap of today’s “Gene therapy registry” session

Today’s session on the WFH Gene Therapy Registry (GTR) included updates on the registry’s implementation and an overview of its governance structure, presented by the co-chairs of the GTR Scientific Advisory Board, Barbara Konkle, MD, and Flora Peyvandi, MD.  This was followed by discussions on the importance of having one unified global database to monitor the long-term safety of all patients undergoing gene therapy. Each stakeholder in this unique partnership contributed to the dialogue, including Vanessa Newman from the industry perspective, Andrea Laslop representing regulatory views, Samantha Gouw discussing the National Registry perspective, Cedric Hermans, MD presenting the HTC perspective, and Brian O’Mahony offering insights from the patient perspective. The session ended with a Q&A period.

Recap: “Transitioning through life stages for women and girls with bleeding disorders”

Today’s session, “Transitioning through life stages for women and girls with bleeding disorders” featured talks by several experts on how to best care for WGBDs as they mature. The talks covered going through life stages—including gender transitioning. The role of the healthcare practitioner and WGBDs clinics was also discussed.

Congrès et développement durable

The WFH is taking steps to ensure that Congress is a sustainable event by hiring vendors with sustainability initiatives, providing a carbon emission offset tool, making water fountains available in the exhibit hall (to reduce the need for bottled water) and reducing the quantity of printed material distributed at the event.

Recap: “Gene therapy: A comprehensive look”

“Gene therapy: A comprehensive look” covered many facets related to developments in gene therapy for hemophilia. Experts covered an overview of where we are now in terms of medical progress, followed by how to establish patient readiness for gene therapy, and how nurses can care for people undergoing gene therapy treatment. The session also featured a patient panel, where PWH shared their experiences with gene therapy.

Don’t forget to drop by the poster gallery in the exhibit hall

More than 300 posters will be displayed in our in-person and virtual poster galleries. Grab a snack and a coffee and join the discussion in our moderated poster sessions during the coffee break tomorrow morning. Having a quick look at the posters on display can be a nice way to take a break and get inspired for your next session. Come any time during the Exhibit Hall opening hours. To see online posters, click here.

Location: Poster gallery and poster pods, Exhibit Hall 9

Hemophilia of Georgia

Hemophilia of Georgia has stood with us for over three decades, playing an early role in distributing donated factor via the WFH Humanitarian Aid program. Our relationship has deepened over the years as they continued to support this program and came on board as a founding Chapter Challenge champion in 2016. Their belief in educating future leaders is clear in their investment in the Youth Leadership Workshops, which has led to the training of over 50 young adults. They also support workshops devoted to educating providers and patient leaders on how to collect and use data to advocate for better patient care. Their staff generously volunteer their time as trainers and as well as serving on various committees.

National Bleeding Disorders Foundation

The National Bleeding Disorders Foundation helps advance our mission on several fronts. They inspire others to follow their lead as a founding champion of the NHF Chapter Challenge. Their commitment to equality of access is demonstrated in their support of the Cornerstone Initiative, which lays the foundation for care in the world's most underserved regions, as well as programs that aim to raise awareness and improve care of women with bleeding disorders and those with von Willebrand disease. We also benefit from their steadfast engagement with various programs including the WFH Twinning Program and their individual leaders’ contribution to our leadership and committees.

Legacy Gift

Do you sometimes wish you could do more? A bequest is a simple way for you to make a significant gift without changing anything about your financial security and lifestyle today. Your legacy will sustain care for the generations to come.
