Nouvelle ONM associée : la Rwanda Fraternity Against Hemophilia (RFH)

Au cours de la dernière assemblée générale annuelle de la Fédération mondiale de l’hémophilie (FMH), la Rwanda Fraternity Against Hemophilia (RFH) a reçu son accréditation en tant qu’organisation nationale membre (ONM) associée, portant le nombre total d’ONM de la FMH à 147.

Au cours de la dernière assemblée générale annuelle de la Fédération mondiale de l’hémophilie (FMH), la Rwanda Fraternity Against Hemophilia (RFH) a reçu son accréditation en tant qu’organisation nationale membre (ONM) associée, portant le nombre total d’ONM de la FMH à 147.

Emmanuel Seromba est président de la RFH et père de deux enfants atteints d’un trouble de la coagulation. Il explique qu’au Rwanda, l’hémophilie a longtemps été une maladie « inconnue », y compris pour les patients eux-mêmes. « Cela fait à peine dix ans que certains médecins et professionnels de santé ont commencé à suspecter des cas d’hémophilie et à envoyer les patients se faire dépister », précise-t-il. Au Rwanda, 90 % des personnes atteintes d’un trouble de la coagulation n’ont pas accès à un traitement.

La Rwanda Fraternity Against Hemophilia (RFH) a été créée en 2014, mais ce n’est que début 2020 que cette organisation de patients a été officiellement reconnue par le gouvernement. La RFH a été fondée pour promouvoir le bien-être des membres de la communauté rwandaise des troubles de la coagulation, en facilitant leur accès au traitement et aux soins, en participant à des actions de plaidoyer auprès du gouvernement, en soutenant le diagnostic et l’identification des patients et en augmentant la sensibilisation aux troubles de la coagulation dans le pays. La RFH compte une trentaine de membres, et actuellement environ 20 personnes atteintes d’un trouble de la coagulation ont été identifiées au Rwanda.

Seromba est optimiste pour l’avenir de son organisation maintenant qu’elle est devenue ONM de la FMH. « Nous sommes convaincus que la FMH pourra nous apporter le soutien nécessaire pour influencer les décisions et les priorités du ministère rwandais de la Santé », déclare-t-il. Les principales difficultés auxquelles fait face l’organisation est le manque de connaissances sur les troubles de la coagulation et de produits thérapeutiques au Rwanda. Ces produits ne sont actuellement accessibles que par le biais de dons du Programme d’aide humanitaire de la FMH.

LA FMH tient à remercier l’Alliance franco-africaine pour le traitement de l’hémophilie (Afath) pour son soutien à la Rwanda Fraternity Against Hemophilia pendant son processus d’accréditation. La FMH a hâte de continuer sa collaboration avec la RFH dans la poursuite de la vision commune du Traitement pour Tous.
