One of the most valuable aspects of the WFH PACT Advocacy Academy for Najmul was connecting with peers around the world who share a commitment to advancing care. “Being on one platform with participants from different countries enriched my perspective and gave me practical ideas I could adapt locally,” he reflects. He also credits his mentors, whose real-world experiences gave him guidance on outreach, strategic planning, and effective lobbying.
Najmul’s advocacy project focuses on awareness-raising and improving diagnosis services for PWBDs and reaching family members within existing bleeding disorders networks. The goal is to expand the national patient base and ensure that individuals receive timely care and support. One of the main challenges he faced as part of the project was hesitation and stigma preventing families from coming forward. To help address this, he led awareness sessions, engaged community members directly, and strengthened existing relationships. These efforts have already led to the identification of new PWBDs and increased community engagement.

—Najmul Alam, President of the Hemophilia Society of Bangladesh
Through the PACT Advocacy Academy, Najmul gained practical skills in planning advocacy projects, community outreach, and the engagement of government and healthcare stakeholders. The program shifted his understanding of advocacy from simply raising awareness to building sustainable, evidence-based change.
Looking ahead, Najmul plans to expand outreach activities, strengthen collaboration with government agencies, and mentor other advocates. His long-term hope is to contribute to a comprehensive national patient registry and ensure equitable access to care for all PWBDs.
His message to future advocates is simple and inspiring: “Engage fully, learn with an open mind, and turn knowledge into action.”
