WFH mourns passing of Murtadha Hassan, MD

La FMH de luto por el fallecimiento del doctor Murtadha Hassan

Con enorme tristeza, la Federación Mundial de Hemofilia (FMH) recibió la noticia del reciente fallecimiento del doctor Murtadha Hassan, defensor de pacientes y líder clave en Irak, además de fundador de la Sociedad Iraquí de Hemofilia, la organización nacional miembro de la FMH en ese país. El profesor Hassan murió el 12 de junio de 2026 a la edad de 78 años.

Murtadha Hassan inició su carrera de hematólogo en 1998, como especialista del laboratorio de hematología en el Centro de Hemofilia del Hospital Universitario del Bienestar, en la Ciudad Médica de Bagdad. En 2004 fundó la Sociedad Iraquí de Hemofilia (SIH) y encabezó los esfuerzos para apoyar su acreditación ante la FMH ese mismo año. A mediados de los años 90, a través de la SIH, el doctor Hassan trabajó a fin de garantizar que se proporcionaran tratamientos por primera vez en Irak, a pesar de las difíciles condiciones de la posguerra.

A lo largo de su vida, Hassan brindó su tiempo y su dedicación a la comunidad de hemofilia de Irak y colaboró estrechamente no solo con el Hospital Universitario del Bienestar y la Ciudad Médica de Bagdad, sino también con más de 20 centros de tratamiento de hemofilia de todo el país. Estableció además una estrecha alianza con el Ministerio de Salud. El doctor Hassan fue también miembro de la Red de Hemofilia del Mediterráneo del Este (HEMNET por su sigla en inglés).

A nombre de la comunidad mundial de trastornos de la coagulación, la FMH desea expresar su más sentido pésame a familiares, amigos y colegas del doctor Murtadha Hassan.
