Murtadha Hassan, MD started his career as a hematologist in 1998 as a Hematology Lab specialist in Iraq at the Hemophilia Centre of the Welfare Teaching Hospital, Baghdad Medical City. In 2004, he founded the Iraqi Hemophilia Society (IHS) and led efforts to support its accreditation by the WFH that same year. Through the IHS, he worked to ensure treatments were provided for the very first time in Iraq in the mid 1990s despite difficult post-war conditions.
Throughout his life, Murtadha Hassan, MD, dedicated his time and passion to the hemophilia community in Iraq and worked closely not only with the University Teaching Hospitals and the Medical City in Baghdad, but also with over 20 hemophilia treatment centres (HTCs) across the country. He also established a strong partnership with the Ministry of Health. Dr Hassan was also a member of the Hemophilia Eastern Mediterranean Network (HEMNET).
