2024 Congress Daily morning edition: Tuesday, April 23

Good morning and welcome to Day 2 of the WFH 2024 World Congress! Check in on the WFH News page daily in the mornings and evenings to learn about what not to miss today, and to get a recap of the key events that took place during the day.

Medical and PWBD concurrent plenaries this morning

It’s hard to choose—but you just might have to! Today at 10:15, we will be hosting our first concurrent plenaries. In the medical track, “Defining success in hemophilia care – Are we doing it right?” Alok Srivastava, MD, will look at our definitions of success, to explore whether we are using the correct approach to determine if we’re making progress for our community. In the PWBD track, “Oral health and quality of life: Let’s talk intimacy, pain and self esteem” Zikra Alkhayal, ABPD, will explore the intimate connection between oral health, sexuality, and overall quality of life. Late breaking session coming up this afternoon

“Late breaking session: New tech” will be chaired by Flora Peyvandi, MD, PhD, and WFH Vice President, Glenn Pierce, MD, PhD. The event will cover new information shared by leading organizations in the field. To find out more, have a look at the full Congress program here.

Don’t miss this: two Presentation Theatre sessions today

Day 2 of Congress will feature two Presentation Theatre sessions covering hereditary factor X deficiency at 11:00, and plasminogen replacement therapy for the treatment of patients with congenital plasminogen deficiency at 15:30. Young researcher free paper session taking place at 11:30

This morning’s young researcher free paper session will feature several promising scientists and researchers who are working to improve the lives of PWBDs. Four speakers from around the world will cover a variety of topics, including pro-hemostatic activity, the Self-BAT screening tool, inhibitors, and women and girls with hemophilia. Spotlight on rare bleeding disorders: three sessions to check out

Industry symposia taking place at 12:45

Three industry symposia will take place today and you’re invited! Gene therapy registry takes centre stage at 17:15

Join us this afternoon for a WFH highlight session on the WFH Gene Therapy Registry. Talks will look at the importance of a gene therapy registry from the perspective of various stakeholders, including participating hemophilia treatment centres, national registries, patients, regulatory bodies, and industry. Network with peers on the Women and Girls with Bleeding Disorders Initiative

Networking is a big part of Congress, and if you have an interest in the issues faced by WGBDs, we encourage you to join us at the WGBD networking event to share experiences with colleagues. Shuttle bus schedule

The WFH will be providing a shuttle service between the official WFH hotels and the IFEMA Convention Center on Congress days (April 21 to 24). Several shuttles will travel between the Meliá Castilla, Novotel Madrid Center, Hotel H10 Tribeca, Ilunion Alcalá Norte, Ilunion Atrium, Marriott Auditorium, and the RIU Plaza España. Shuttles will depart approximately every thirty minutes and will loop continuously throughout the morning and late afternoon. WFH 2024 Congress signs will be posted at all boarding sites identifying the location as a WFH Shuttle pick-up and drop-off site.

Unauthorized solicitations – Warning

The WFH has been made aware of various correspondences—circulated via e-mail and telephone—coming from individuals impersonating WFH staff or falsely stating that they are associated with the WFH. These correspondences, which may seek to obtain money using the name of someone affiliated with the WFH, are fraudulent and come from outside of our organization.

If you receive a suspicious solicitation, exercise extreme caution. In the case of an email, look at the email address to see if it looks suspicious (for example, all WFH emails come from @wfh.org).
