WFH to call special meeting of the General Assembly

The COVID-19 pandemic has had major impacts on the bleeding disorders community over the last two years, including the cancellation or postponement of events. Changes related to these effects have now necessitated the calling of a special World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) General Assembly (GA) meeting to decide the location and host national member organization (NMO) of the 2024 World Congress.

In 2020, the cancellation of the WFH World Congress—and its replacement with the very first WFH Virtual Summit—meant that the hosting of the Congress by Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, would be moved to 2024. In the two years since that decision, the landscape for the global bleeding disorders community has continued to evolve. The WFH Board of Directors have now  decided that the WFH 2024 World Congress will take place in Europe, and that the Congress in Kuala Lumpur be moved to 2026 instead. This recommendation was taken due to our commitment to providing Congresses which are geographically balanced for the community in consideration with all the major global events taking place in a given year. After the successful Congress in Montreal, Canada this year, the next WFH World Congress will now be in Europe, with the following event in Asia—ensuring a fair geographic spread for our physical meetings. We would like to particularly thank our NMO, the Hemophilia Society of Malaysia, for having graciously agreed to this change.

A formal notice will be sent to NMOs shortly, and the host city of the WFH 2024 World Congress will soon be selected by them at the special meeting of General Assembly that will take place in fall 2022. Check in soon to find out where we will meet in Europe in 2024!

We’ve accomplished a lot this year, we need your help to continue strong.
