The Pierce Access and Innovation Resources (PAIR) Fund was established through a founding gift by Glenn Pierce, MD, PhD, former WFH Vice President, Medical, and Mariana L. Battazza reflecting their deep personal commitment to advancing access to care globally. This leadership gift set the foundation for the PAIR Fund and has already begun to catalyze additional support from partners and donors—demonstrating a shared commitment in the community to accelerating progress where it is needed most.
Too many people with bleeding disorders around the world still lack access to even the most basic diagnosis and care. The PAIR Fund is an opportunity to address these gaps through targeted, practical investments that can make a meaningful difference—particularly in regions where the need is greatest.
—Glenn Pierce, MD, PhD, former WFH Vice President, Medical
The PAIR Fund is a valued addition to the WFH because despite meaningful advances, many people with bleeding disorders still lack access to timely diagnosis, treatment, and comprehensive care. The fund will support targeted, high-impact efforts to help address these gaps, particularly in underserved regions, by enabling the WFH to respond to emerging needs and drive meaningful improvements in outcomes.
A key focus of the PAIR Fund will be strengthening the WFH Cornerstone Initiative—an endeavour that aims to close the gap in treatment by providing support, expertise, and training to countries with minimal levels of care—through targeted grants to participating countries. These grants will support priority activities such as improving diagnostic capacity, enhancing clinical readiness, and strengthening patient organization engagement. The first round of applications will be launched this year.
Importantly, the PAIR Fund reflects the power of partnership, combining resources with opportunity, innovation with implementation, and global expertise with local needs to deliver tangible and lasting impact. The WFH and WFH USA invite partners, donors, and the global community to join this initiative and accelerate progress and advance our shared vision of Treatment for All.
The WFH is deeply grateful to the early supporters of the PAIR Fund whose leadership and generosity have been instrumental in bringing this initiative to life.
