Kathy, a physiotherapist and tireless volunteer, significantly shaped musculoskeletal (MSK) care standards for individuals living with hemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders. She served for over ten years on the WFH Musculoskeletal Committee, including a term as its chair, during which she led numerous training workshops for physiotherapists in different regions of the world. She also played a pivotal role in creating WFH standardized training curricula—including developing a “training the trainer” course—that have helped to enhance MSK professionals’ expertise worldwide.
Kathy Mulder’s manual manipulation approach to restoring joint motion and range of motion in patients was particularly useful for countries with limited resources where manual exercises are often the only option for physiotherapists. This approach led to the publication of an exercise book which is still one of the leading resources for physiotherapists in limited resource countries.
This appointment to the Order of Canada underscores Mulder’s exceptional commitment to the bleeding disorder community both nationally and globally.
On behalf of the WFH and the global inherited bleeding disorders community, congratulations, Kathy!
