WFH side-event on Global call to action for bleeding disorders: Translating evidence into impact to drive health policy and practice

The WFH organized a WHA78 side event on translating real world evidence into policy and practice to improve treatment and care for people with bleeding disorders. The side event brought together representatives from the WHO, member states, people with bleeding disorders (PWBD), national member organizations (NMOs), hemophilia treatment centres (HTCs), international organizations, civil society actors and pharmaceutical industry representatives. The side event was co-sponsored by the Ministry of Health and Population of Arab Republic of Egypt and included keynote addresses, presentations and an expert panel discussion.

During the side event, the WFH called on the WHO and member states to develop a coordinated global framework on hemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders through a WHA resolution.
WHA78 side event on rare diseases

The WFH—in collaboration with Rare Diseases International and other civil society organizations—held a WHA78 side event to highlight the milestone WHA78 resolution for rare diseases, which includes bleeding disorders. Cesar Garrido, WFH President, highlighted the gaps in care, and the opportunities to expand access to care and treatment for PWBD.
WHA78 side event on health equity for migrants and refugees

WFH joined the governments of Egypt, Peru, WHO, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and several member states and international organizations as a co-sponsor of a WHA78 side event on “Global Health Equity: A Shared Responsibility in Addressing NCDs Burden for All, including Migrants and Refugees”. WFH President, Cesar Garrido, called on WHO member states and civil society to forge strong partnerships to address challenges in accessing treatment for PWBD in affected communities.
Joint Statements at the WHA official sessions
The WFH joined the International Alliance of Patients’ Associations (IAPO), the Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Alliance, and other civil society organizations in several constituency statements at the WHA78 to advocate for accelerating progress towards universal health coverage and noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) management.
