A World Health Assembly Resolution is an official World Health Organization (WHO) policy document adopted by the WHO Member States to set global health priorities and policies, guide national health strategies and request specific actions from the Member States and the WHO Secretariat.
By adopting the WHA resolution on Global Action to Advance Health Equity for People with Hemophilia and Other Bleeding Disorders, the WHO and its Member States (national governments) are elevating bleeding disorders on the global health agenda and are recognizing the need for strengthened global coordination and sustained policy action to address the health inequities affecting our community.
The WFH commends the WHO Member States—Armenia (the proponent country) for their leadership of this important initiative, and the co-sponsors Bosnia & Herzegovina, China, Egypt, Georgia, Iraq, Latvia, Malta, Morocco, Nepal, Paraguay, the Russian Federation, Slovenia, Spain, Sri Lanka and Togo.
As a non-state actor in official relations with the WHO, the WFH has been advocating for and supporting the development and adoption of this resolution. The WFH has also launched a Global Call to Action in support of the adoption of this resolution and would like to acknowledge and thank the over 100 national, regional and international patient and medical/scientific societies that have joined this global call, including our national member organizations (NMOs).
As we celebrate this landmark achievement today, we call upon the WHO and all Member States to support effective implementation of this resolution to translate this political commitment into real-world impact for all people living with bleeding disorders across the globe.
