Participants of the two-day virtual WFH Global Policy and Access Summit (GPAS) will experience a rich program with presentations and panel discussions delivered by global experts. Read on to learn more about what you can expect to experience with us this July!
Day one of the Summit will include plenary and educational sessions covering the disparities in access to diagnosis and care for people with bleeding disorders (PWBDs). There will also be dedicated talks on the health inequities faced by people with von Willebrand disease (VWD) and women and girls with bleeding disorders (WGBD) by Nathan Connell, MD (U.S.A), and Dawn Rotellini, WFH Board Member (U.S.A), respectively. The next session will take us on a tour around the world, with WFH national member organizations (NMOs) sharing the successes, challenges and lessons learnt related to their national advocacy projects. The first day of the summit will also feature a panel discussion on strategies to accelerate the identification and diagnosis of PWBD as a first step in accessing care.
Day two of the Summit will feature educational sessions on strengthening the organization of care, with a keynote presentation by Declan Noon, President, European Haemophilia Consortium (EHC) (Ireland) on strategies to increase government investment in bleeding disorders care. Another talk, given by Alok Srivastava, MD (India), will cover the healthcare provider’s perspective on improving care delivery nationally. These insightful presentations will be followed by the government perspective on developing national bleeding disorder programs, with a case study from Brazil.
Another highlight for the second day of the Summit will be a presentation by Glenn Pierce, MD, PhD, Vice President, Medical, WFH (U.S.A), on existing and novel therapies. This will be followed by an expert panel discussion on increasing equitable access to care in our fast-changing treatment landscape. Confirmed expert panelists for this session include Glenn Pierce; Brian O’Mahony (Ireland); Cedric Hermans, MD, Medical Board Member, WFH (Belgium), and David Page (Canada).
The program with continue with a highlight session on the WFH PACT Program and its contribution to increasing access to diagnosis, treatment, and care for PWBD globally. The Summit will close with a dedicated session on the shared decision-making model in healthcare where the new WFH Shared Decision Making Tool for Hemophilia Treatment will be presented to our global community for the very first time.
