“Our two organizations have the common objective of promoting training and the exchange of knowledge between health professionals who are working in the field of bleeding disorders in Latin America,” says Cesar Garrido, WFH President. “This MoU solidifies the collaboration and cooperation that we are proud to say has been taking place for many years now.”
The CLAHT Group aims to promote training and the exchange of knowledge between hemostasis and thrombosis health professionals in Latin America, and foster collaboration between regional organizations in the field. As a well-established medical group comprised of hematologists and laboratory professionals in the region, the CLAHT Group has closely worked with WFH for many years—and this collaboration has resulted in the sustained improvement of education and care in the region.
“The CLAHT Group has a long history of working with other organizations to further the promotion and education of bleeding disorders in Latin America,” Raúl Izaguirre Ávila, MD, President of the CLATH Group, explains. “Our collaboration with the WFH has been steadily strengthening over the last years and we are certain that the signing of this agreement will further our relationship even more.”
The MoU establishes common goals with specific objectives for improving care in Latin America. The WFH and the CLAHT Group agree to:
- Provide training to healthcare professionals involved in the diagnosis, treatment, and research of inherited bleeding disorders
- Promote the exchange of information among professionals in the region, and facilitate the development of clinical studies and inter-institutional and international publications
- Promote the exchange of knowledge and points of view in the congresses that each group holds
- Include experts from each organization in the national or international congresses organized by each group
- Leverage the platforms and information channels of each organization to disseminate information related to joint activities and initiatives
- Facilitate CLAHT Group collaboration on WFH initiatives and programs in the region
In addition to the above, the WFH and the CLAHT Group will work to disseminate the WFH Guidelines for the Management of Hemophilia, 3rd edition and the ASH ISTH NHF WFH 2021 guidelines on the diagnosis and management of von Willebrand disease (VWD); jointly develop projects to promote the use of the World Bleeding Disorders Registry (WBDR) among professionals in the region; train specialists on the diagnosis and care of women and girls with bleeding disorders; and to promote the use of echography as a key tool for evaluating and monitoring joint health.
