Day one of the WFH Global Summit on WGBD will focus on “NMO support and advocacy for WGBD”. The event will kick off with opening words by Dawn Rotellini, WFH Women and Girls with Bleeding Disorders Committee chair (U.S.A.). After this, the summit will cover the role of patient organizations in reaching equity for women with some WFH national member organizations (NMOs) sharing their WGBD-focused advocacy projects successes, challenges, and lessons learned. The third presentation of the day will be about the importance of using guidelines for the diagnosis and management of bleeding disorders in women and girls, and their potential impact on equity and access to care. The day will close with a panel discussion on what men should know about WGBD, featuring Patrick James Lynch (U.S.A), Masood Fareed (Pakistan), Gernot Radlingmayr (Austria), and Miguel Escobar (U.S.A.).
Day two of the summit will focus on strategies and approaches to closing the gap in care. Attendees will start the day with an interactive session on overcoming psychosocial barriers. Through presentations and discussions in breakout rooms, common psychological and social challenges faced by WGBD will be addressed as well as the strategies to cope with them. Next, participants will be able to take part in two other enriching sessions: “On both sides of the placenta: impact of bleeding on the fetus” and a session on the importance of the multidisciplinary team at every stage of the lifespan. Finally, the summit will end with a session on the purposeful inclusion of women in research, featuring Roshni Kulkarni (U.S.A.); Tahira Zafar (Pakistan); Angela Weyland (U.S.A.), and Ellia Tootoonchian (Canada).
We look forward to connecting with you virtually this September. Together, let’s empower women and girls with bleeding disorders, drive positive change, and create a more equitable world for all.
